ECE Team won Best Paper Award at RTAS 2024

RTAS 2024
Daniel Enright and Hyunjong Choi from Prof. Kim's Lab

Daniel Enright, Hyunjong Choi, Yecheng Xiang, and Hyoseung Kim won the Best Paper Award at the 30th IEEE Real-Time and Embedded Technology and Applications Symposium (RTAS) in May 2024. RTAS is one of the top conferences in the field of real-time embedded systems and is held as part of CPS-IoT Week, a premier academic event centered around Cyber-Physical Systems and the Internet-of-Things. The paper, titled "PAAM: A Framework for Coordinated and Priority-Driven Accelerator Management in ROS 2", is co-authored by current and former PhD students of the ECE department, all advised by Prof. Hyoseung Kim. Daniel Enright, the first author of the paper and a current PhD student, also won the Best Student Paper Award at RTAS 2024 for this paper.

The best paper committee of RTAS 2024 stated that "the proposed solution (PAAM), which is presented clearly, successfully addresses the challenge of managing accelerators like GPUs and TPUs in ROS2 applications. Empirical results, supported by the corresponding theoretical analyses, show that PAAM effectively provides predictability when safety-critical applications in ROS2 offload computation to accelerators. The potential short-term impact of the work is high as PAAM is evaluated on a representative setup (software, hardware, and case studies)."
