Professor Ren Receives an NSF Research Grant on Edge Data Centers

Many emerging latency-critical online services such as augmented reality and assisted driving are hosted in distributed edge data centers. Professor Shaolei Ren (PI) received a three-year research grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for developing novel artificial intelligence techniques to increase the quality of service for these services without data center expansion. The key contribution of this project is an intelligent and scalable framework based on state-of-the-art reinforcement learning, which holistically coordinates servers' resource consumption on the fly to provide the fastest responses to user requests.
