Prof. Ran Cheng Received Five-Year MURI Award for Antiferromagnetic Spintronics

Riverside, Ca –

Professor Ran Cheng received a five-year $777K award from the Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) program of the Department of Defense (DoD) as a member of the MURI team consisting of 7 PIs from 6 US institutions led by the University of Central Florida ($7.5M award in total for the whole team). The award supports a large-scale collaborative investigation of antiferromagnetic materials to realize Terahertz (THz) communication, information processing, and data storage. Professor Cheng's role in the MURI team is to theoretically study fundamental physical properties of antiferromagnetic materials, which is essential for his experimental colleagues to understand the physical mechanisms underlying the THz behaviors of those materials.
