ECE PhD student Niluthpol Chowdhury Mithun is the first author of the paper that won the Best Paper Award at the ACM International Conference on Multimedia Retrieval (ICMR) 2018.  Niluthpol’s advisor is ECE Professor Amit Roy-Chowdhury. The paper titled "Learning Joint Embedding with Multimodal Cues for Cross-Modal Video-Text Retrieval" presents a highly efficient approach for learning joint image-text correlation models by effectively utilizing available multimodal cues from videos. Such a model can be used for cross-modal video-text retrieval tasks, i.e., retrieving videos given text queries and vice versa. ICMR is one of the premier conferences in multimedia; ICMR 2018 had an acceptance rate of 15.4% for oral presentations at the conference. The work was done in collaboration with researchers at Carnegie Mellon University and Bosch Research.
