Professor Balandin’s 5-volume handbook on nanotechnology appears in print
Electrical Engineering Professor Alexander A. Balandin co-edited (with Kang L. Wang, UCLA) and co-authored a major 5-volume handbook in the nanotechnology field. The Handbook of Semiconductor Nanostructures and Nanodevices (ASP, Los Angeles, 2006), which just appeared in print, is an unprecedented single reference source that provides the fundamentals and the most recent advances in the interdisciplinary field of semiconductor nanostructures and devices. The five comprehensive volumes of the handbook cover all important aspects of the field: (i) quantum dots, nanowires and nano-assemblies; (ii) nanofabrication and nanoscale characterization; (iii) spintronics and nanoelectronics; (iv) nanophotonics and optoelectronics; as well as (v) nanodevices and circuits. Professor Balandin, who also wrote an introduction to all volumes, assembled an international team of more than 200 recognized experts from more than 20 countries to bring this handbook to life. The UCR Electrical Engineering Department's leading position in the field is evidenced by the fact that the handbook features four invited review chapters from EE professors on the subjects of the electron device modeling (R. Lake); nanostructures made of wide band-gap semiconductors (A.A. Balandin); self-assembly of quantum dots (J.L. Liu); and nanoscale magnetic memory devices (S. Khizroev).
