Abstract:

In control systems we are familiar with, an implicit assumption is that the information exchange between the components, such as the controller and the plant, is ideal. However, this assumption is no longer reasonable when, for example, the controller and the plant are spatially distributed and they are connected through some communication networks. Networked control, or control over networks is a relative new research topic to cope with this situation.

In this talk, I will address the stabilization and optimal tracking performance problem of a linear time-invariant system over a communication link in the feedback loop modeled as an additive white noise channel with input power constraint. The power constraint of the channel will affect the stability and the tracking performance of the linear system explicitly. Furthermore, I will talk about the same problems with regard to multiple-input multiple-output systems with parallel additive noise channels. In this case, the total channel input power is allotted to each individual channel. The power allotment by designing the optimal controller will be shown.

About the Speaker:

Yiqian Li is a graduate student and Ph.D. candidate at the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of California, Riverside. His current research interests are: linear multivariable system theory, networked control and information theory. He received his Bachelor's degree from the Department of Automation, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China in 2006.
