Electrical Engineering PhD Candidate Javed Khan, who conducts his dissertation research in Professor Alexander Balandin’s Nano-Device Laboratory (NDL), received the 2nd Place Award in the Solid State Science and Technology category. The international graduate student research competition took place at the annual spring meeting of the Electrochemical Society (ECS) held in Montreal, Canada. Javed’s presentation was entitled “Graphene-like” Exfoliation and Characterization of Material Properties of Quasi-2D Crystals. The ECS graduate student research session and competition in Montreal, Canada drew 75 entries from a dozen of different countries. The winners were presented with their awards at the Society’s Annual Luncheon and Business Meeting at the Montreal Convention Center. The graduate student poster at ECS has traditionally enabled the students to expose their research to a diverse academic and industrial audience. Javed’s research in Balandin group has been funded by the Semiconductor Research Corporation and DARPA. Details of Javed’s research can be found on Professor Balandin’s group website at
