Ph.D. students Joe Khalife and Kimia Shamei and Prof. Zak Kassas Receive Best Student Paper Award in IEEE/ION PLANS 2016 Conference

May 4, 2016

Ph.D. students Joe Khalife and Kimia Shamei and their advisor Prof. Zak Kassas received the best student paper award in the 2016 IEEE/ION Position, Location, and Navigation Symposium (PLANS) Conference for their paper entitled "A software-defined receiver architecture for cellular CDMA-based navigation." The paper derived models for received cellular CDMA signals in terms of navigation observables of interest at a high level of granularity. The paper also presented a state-of-the-art, software-defined receiver (SDR) that is capable of extracting these navigation observables, resulting in an unprecedented level of accuracy for navigation with cellular CDMA signals. Experimental results utilizing the proposed SDR demonstrated a mean distance difference of 5.51 m from a GPS navigation solution.
